Read about the mission of Caribbean Volunteer Expeditions...
  • Where do we work? - Our Work takes us onto many of teh Caribbean Islands. The islands range from tiny Nevis to Jamaica. Irrespective of the island, we are always involved with the local community, and all of our projects are run in cooperation with local historical and cultural organizations. From old cemeteries to historic buildings, colonial-era forts to museum archives, gadens to tropical forests, wherever it is we work it is invariably interesting!
  • When do we work? - Our programs usually run from November to March, ideal weather for workin in the islands. Each one week program includes site work for 5-6 hours a day Monday to Friday, followed by a cultural or recreational activity in the early afternoon. Many of our groups stay at beach-side hotels, and so a late afternoon swim is always welcome. As the programs usually run Sunday - Sunday we have a free day Saturday, which gives participants an opportunity to laze on the beach, play tourist or visit another island.
  • What do we do? - Our work is anything that makes a contribution to the perservation of the cultural heritage of the Caribbean, and can range from clearing vegetation from around historic buildings to computerizing museum archives. Our historic cemetery inventory projects are very popular, as are the building archeology and recording projects. Lately, we have begun to assist museums with the management of their collections, and this is becoming a popular program. Our projects are so varied in scope that whatever your skills, we can find a use for them!
  • Who are our volunteers? - Our volunteers come from all walks of life, from a wide age range and from a variety of backrounds. A typical group is made up of people who like history, people who like the Caribbean but want to do more than lie on the beach, those who are looking for something different, those who enjoy the companionship and comaraderie of being a part of a group, and first-time visitors to the Caribbean. Potential volunteers should note, however, that because our work is often outside, and field work can be quite physical, you need to be capable of participating fully in the week's activities.
